Data Security

All organisations have a duty of care to ensure that any confidential data they hold is not released in an unauthorised or accidental way.  Careless disposal of computer equipment can lead to information falling into the wrong hands, with the ensuing adverse media coverage and heavy fines for the organisation responsible for holding the data.

MillRace guarantees that all data is securely removed from hard disk drives and other data-bearing items and identifying marks are completely removed from all equipment.  Working in partnership with RDC, MillRace is able to offer ISO 9001quality-assured processes that track all items throughout the collection, data eradication and disposal process.

Using specialist overwriting and reformatting software we ensure that no data falls into the wrong hands.  Items that cannot be wiped are drilled to destroy the disk, then shredded and smelted down.  A detailed certificate of destruction can be produced for items processed in this way.

Environmental issues

Computer equipment that is thrown in a skip usually ends up as landfill, causing pollution to our air, rivers and land.  Sending computers to third-world countries for reuse often results in shipments being diverted to unlicensed, unequipped processing facilities who cause massive pollution and severe health issues for their workers.

At MillRace we believe that the best form of recycling is reuse and we will test your equipment with the aim of reusing as much as possible.  All redundant equipment is either reused, refurbished or recycled as spares with raw materials extracted from any unusable equipment.  Where an item is not suitable for reuse then it is recycled by suitable licensed reprocessors and 100% of the material is recovered and zero disposed of to landfill.

WEEE Legislation

The WEEE directive (Waste Electronic and Electrical Equipment) says that materials such as CRTs, LCD displays, PCBs, batteries and flame retardant plastics must be pre-treated before disposal.  Under the Environmental Protection Act, organisations have a duty of care to

dispose of waste using registered carriers and that it is properly stored and disposed of at appropriately licensed facilities.
